Scripture Lesson:

Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.  He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Psalm 91:14-16

The 91st Psalm is considered a Psalm of Trust.  It is a psalm that can be used in just about any situation.  It’s hard to read this passage and not feel a warm sensation inside.  It is so comforting, and it always seems to make you feel better, no matter what is going on.

This psalm contains tremendous promises from the Lord. He promises to deliver us, set us on high, answer us, be with us in trouble, honor us, satisfy us with long life and show us His salvation.  There’s not too much that doesn’t fall into this realm.  What do we need to do in order to enjoy these promises?  We need to set our love upon Him, know His name and call upon Him.  This is not hard to do, because our God is an awesome God.

For the rest of our meditation, let’s read the words of the entire 91st Psalm as recorded in the New Living Translation.  See the images in your mind as you read the words.  Hear the voice of God as you read the promises at the end.  Our God is truly an awesome God.

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him.   For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet! The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.  I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

My God is awesome. I love Him and I call upon Him. I am so grateful for the promise that God will deliver me, set me on high, be with me in times of trouble, honor me, satisfy me with long life and show me His salvation.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
