Scripture Lesson: Acts 1:8
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Meditation
For Jesus disciples, this had been a wild month and a half.  Jesus had been arrested, crucified, and resurrected.  Their emotions had gone from extreme sorrow to sheer joy.  Now they were ready to see what was to happen next.  Would this be the time that Jesus restored the kingdom to Israel?  They had been under Roman rule for many years.  They were ready for total freedom.

They did not get the answer from Jesus that they wanted.  Jesus told them not to worry about that.  They had bigger fish to fry.  It was time for them to get to work.  However, they did not have everything that would need.  They would still need power.  That power would come from the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit would not only comfort them as Jesus explained in John chapter 14.  The Holy Spirit would also give them power; the power to be a witness of him.  A witness is one who can give a firsthand account of something seen, heard, or experienced: one who furnishes evidence.  They were called to furnish this amazing experience to world and to present it in such a way that it would be believable.

How well did they do?  How powerful was the Holy Spirit in their lives.  Through this power, a group of 120 people were able to establish a religion that has over 2.1 billion people worldwide today.  That does not even include the billions and billions that have passed on.

That same power is available to us today.  We have the power through the Holy Spirit to be a witness of Jesus Christ.  Through our witness, we are impacting more people than we know.  We are also impacting future generations.  But what legacy are we leaving?  What will future generations say about our representation of God?

Affirmations
I have the power of the Holy Spirit in my life.  Through His power, I can have an awesome witness for Jesus Christ.  I am mindful that people are watching me.  I want to present a witness of Jesus Christ that is true to His Word. I rejoice and I am grateful for the promise that I have the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus Name, Amen.
