Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
The children of Israel were precious to God. They were His chosen people. He did not choose them because they were better than other people. He chose them because… He chose them. He does not give us reason. All we know is that they were chosen.
It appears that God wanted a people that He could have intimate relationship with. He wanted a people that appreciated Him for who He was, God Almighty. He wanted them to know His strength and respect it. He would do mighty things for them, but in return He wanted them to obey His voice. If they did, they would be a peculiar treasure to Him, a kingdom of priest and a holy, consecrated nation.
Not only is this promise for us today as believers, but it is repeated, in 1 Peter 2:9. “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”
We are a treasure to God. Imagine that, a treasure to the Almighty God. We must show forth His praise and recognize that He called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. We are no longer in the darkness of sin. We can now walk according to the spirit.
Are you acting like a treasure to God? Do you appreciate not only what He has done for you but who He is to you? If so, show forth His praise and let others know about the goodness of God.
I am precious to God. I am important to God. I am chosen, royal, holy and peculiar. I will recognize my importance to Him by showing forth His praise. I am so grateful for the promise that I am a peculiar treasure to God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
